Scott Clarke / ESPN Images(PARIS) — A wrist injury is keeping nine-time winner Rafael Nadal out of the French Open.

On Thursday, the Spanish tennis star advanced to the third round winning straight sets over Facundo Bagnis, all with “an injection” to manage the injury, BBC News reports.

“Yesterday I played with an injection,” Nadal told reporters, according to BBC News. “Yesterday evening I started to feel more and more pain and today I felt I could not move my wrist.”

Nadal, 29, was set to face Spanish player Marcel Granollers on Saturday in the third round when he announced his withdrawl on Friday.

“This is a tough moment and the toughest press conference I have ever had to give but it’s not the end,” he said.
