Driver Using Cell Phone Causes Crash

Bend, Ore. – A speeding driver talking on a cellphone was the cause of a crash on the Bend Parkway Saturday afternoon, closing the road for nearly an hour.

According to police, the car drifted and a station wagon struck an SUV causing a rollover crash.

Both drivers were wearing seat belts, and both vehicles sustained heavy damage and had to be towed from the scene.

An investigation determined that Kyle Savage of Bend was driving a 1995 Subaru station wagon heading north in the right (slow) lane, exceeding the posted 45 mph speed limit.

Savage was using a cellphone.

Savage’s vehicle drifted to the left, colliding with a 2001 Chevy Tahoe driven by Robert Graham, also of Bend, also heading north in the left (fast) lane

The guardrail that was struck also had major damage.

The speeding driver was issued citations for careless driving and operating a motor vehicle while using a mobile device.
