Four Escape La Pine Home Fire

La Pine, Ore. – Four residents of a La Pine home escaped safely after an electrical furnace caught fire and filled their home with smoke. According to duty officer Fred Franklin, 9-1-1 received a call just after 8am Friday. When fire crews arrived at 53116 Holiday Drive to find an 1,800 square foot double wide manufacture home with smoke issuing from open windows and a door.

Crews quickly noted that the fire had started in the furnace from an, as yet undetermined cause, and propagated through ducting and was burning in the sub-floor. Crews worked simultaneously to extinguish the fire with hose lines from both the exterior through foundation vents and by breaking access holes through the masonry foundation, and from the interior by cutting holes through the floor with chainsaws and hand tools. Portions of the floor and foundation along one wall were extensively damaged, however, smoke and fire damage to the house and contents were limited. There were no injuries sustained on the fire. The building is insured and the Red Cross responded to assist the occupants.
