July 2-5 – Due to Holiday Fireworks Pilot Butte Access Closed To Vehicles

Bend, Ore. – Due to the July 4th Fireworks Display on Pilot Butte, the road to the top will be closed to vehicles from Saturday, July 2 until early afternoon on Tuesday, July 5, to give the crews time to clean up the area.

Walkers will be able to walk up the road and the trail Saturday and Sunday, but they will not be able to get all the way to the top.

The entire park will be closed all day, Monday, July 4 until Tuesday afternoon.

Please stay off the park property for the duration of that time.

Fire protection for the fireworks display is a coordinated effort between the Bend Fire Department, Bend Police, the Deschutes National Forest, Oregon Department of Forestry and the Oregon Parks Department.

Crews will wet down the land beside the road, pre-plumb fire hoses up and down the butte and position their fire equipment strategically for optimal access.

Command and control will be operated from the top of the butte, and there will be fire spotters situated around the base of the cinder cone.
