Central Oregon – Calling all Volunteers! The Meals On Wheels program needs volunteers who want to make a difference in the lives of in-need seniors.
Volunteer drivers deliver meals to homebound seniors and check on them by friendly chat, including quick safety checks.
Two million Americans volunteer their time to the Meals On Wheels program.
The Central Oregon chapter is coordinated by the Central Oregon Council on Aging, and provides more than 75,000 Meals On Wheels to nearly 700 homebound seniors in Deschutes, Crook, and Jefferson counties.
More than 10 million American seniors struggle with hunger, 15.2 million live in isolation and 18.4 million live in or near the poverty line.
The senior population is projected to double by 2050.
