Open House Scheduled For Bend UGB Project

Bend, Ore. – The City of Bend encourages Bend area residents to attend an upcoming community open house to learn about the City’s Urban Growth Boundary (UGB) Remand project. The focus of this meeting is to provide information about the recommendations for the proposed UGB expansion and related plans, policies and codes that will be considered for adoption by the Bend City Council in August, 2016.

The open house is Thursday, July 28, from 5:30 p.m. – 8 p.m. at Skyview Middle School, 63555 NE 18th Street, Bend.

Attendees can arrive at any time. No presentation is planned. Staff will be available to provide information and answer questions. There will be a variety of displays describing the recommended UGB expansion areas, zoning updates for “opportunity areas” within the city, and supporting technical analyses and implementing plans, policies and standards. More information about the meeting and the project is available on the City’s UGB website: www.bendoregon.gov/bendugb

Those who wish to provide formal comment about the proposed UGB recommendations should submit written comments to the City so they are entered into the public hearing record. A joint public hearing before the Bend City Council and the Deschutes County Board of Commissioners is scheduled for Thursday, August 25, 2016, in the Barnes/Sawyer Room of the Deschutes Services Building, 1300 NW Wall Street, Bend. The hearing will be held in two sessions: an afternoon session will begin at 1 p.m. and an evening session will begin at 6 p.m. Parties interested in providing testimony can attend either session. Written comments may be submitted in advance to Senior Planner Damian Syrnyk, dsyrnyk@bendoregon.gov or 709 NW Wall Street, Suite 102, Bend, OR 97701.

The City’s UGB expansion project is charting a path for Bend’s future growth. The UGB is a line on the City’s Comprehensive Plan map that identifies Bend’s urban land. This land represents an estimated 20-year supply of land for employment, housing and other urban uses. The UGB process has provided the Bend community with an opportunity to develop a plan for future growth that reflects the community’s values and meets state planning requirements. The upcoming public hearings mark a key milestone in the City’s growth management planning and update of the UGB.
