Bend, Ore. – Deschutes County workers and contractors are chip sealing the county roads this week and are utilizing a smaller rock size in the bike lane compared with the travel lane to give a less jarring ride for cyclists.
The county chip seals up to 95 miles of its road system each summer which also includes city roads.
The county so far has completed work for the cities of Bend and Redmond, as well as well as 6 1/2 miles of asphalt overlays for Burgess Road and Finley Butte Road near La Pine and Arnold Market Road east of Bend.
An overlay can include up to 3 inches of hot mix asphalt being applied to the surface, and is different than the simple chip sealing maintenance.
