New Multi Family Housing Project On Bend’s Westside Rejected

Bend, Ore. – City Planning Commissioners voted 5-1 Monday against a plan for new multi-family housing on Bend’s west side.

The rezoning proposal would have paved the way for developer Bill Smith and Central Oregon Community College, who owns the property, to rezone 8 acres on the south side of Shevlin Park Road at Mt. Washington Drive.

The property in question is currently zoned for up to 7.3 housing units per acre. The change sought by COCCC and Bill Smith, would have allowed for the construction of up to 21.7 condo or apartment-style units per acre.

The proposed development would have totaled 14.5 acres.
