Blaze Ignites Off Skyliner Road – Quickly Doused

Bend, Ore. – A blaze ignited west of Bend Monday afternoon, but fire crews quickly doused the flames before it spread.

The fire was off Skyliners Road about 2 1/2 miles west of Phil’s Trailhead on the Deschutes National Forest, according to fire officals.

The fire burned between Skyliners Road and Tumalo Creek.

Tall plumes of smoke were visible, and smoke filled the air in the late afternoon hours, prompting concern from residents.

In Jefferson County, more smoke caused concern, as officials quelled fears of a another possible fire – citing annual summer control burns.
