Shonda Rhimes, “Good Housekeeping” Rank 2016's “25 Awesome Women”

ABC/Image Group LA(LOS ANGELES) — Who are the country’s most awesome women?  Next month, in an issue guest-edited by Scandal creator/producer Shonda Rhimes, Good Housekeeping magazine will publish its annual list of the top 25.

This year’s list includes women who are making a difference in their communities, to famous women using their celebrity to encourage change.

“A lot of women inspire me,” Rhimes told Good Housekeeping. “I think most of the people I meet everyday are interesting. I have this theory that everyone has a story.”

“The only difference between a woman and an awesome woman is how you define yourself,” she added.

On Monday’s Good Morning AmericaGood Housekeeping editor-in-chief Jane Francisco said a team of people, including Rhimes, had the task of selecting a diverse group of women who were mentoring others, fighting for equal rights, working in their communities and tackling tough issues such as gender bias, body image and equal access to education.

The honorees include Jane Chen, a woman whose company created a low-cost infant warmer that helps babies in developing nations survive; Beverly Bond, the woman behind the Black Girls Rock! Awards show; and Oscar-winning actress Geena Davis, founder of the Geena Davis Institute on Gender in Media.

Also on the list is GMA news anchor Amy Robach, featured for her public fight with breast cancer and her work to raise awareness of the importance of screening. Also making the list is former Dancing with the Stars hoofer-turned The View co-host Candace Cameron Bure, who was heralded for talking about her struggle with an eating disorder.
