Deschutes County, Ore. – Ochoco National Forest will celebrate Public Lands Day this Saturday (Sep. 24) with a volunteer work day to cage plants along a section of Trout Creek that was recently restored.
A stream restoration project last year north of McKay Saddle led to replanting of vegetation mean to provide cover for fish habitat. Volunteers on Saturday will cage those plants to protect them and help ensure the ecosystem.
The annual public lands day event aims to gather volunteers for these efforts to preserve and enhance our forests. Last year in the Ochoco National Forest, volunteers planted 125,000 trees, shrubs and plants, and removed 550 tons of trash from the area.
