Deschutes County SAR Assists Injured Horseback Rider On Green Lakes Trail

Deschutes County, Ore. – Deschutes County Search and Rescue was dispatched to the Green Lakes Trail for a report of an injured horseback rider who had an accident during a stream crossing.

The injured rider, Marsha Morrison, 66, of Bend, was reportedly in need of medical attention and unable to negotiate the trail down to the Green Lakes parking area.

Morrison had been riding with two others who remained with her at the scene.

Air ambulance services were dispatched and assisted in locating the horseback riders on the trail. Two Deschutes County Forest Patrol Deputies responded on the trail to assist with locating a landing zone.

Due to steep terrain and dense tree cover the aircraft was unable to land in the area. Twelve Deschutes County Search and Rescue members deployed on the trail providing medical aid to Morrison before transported her in a wheeled litter to the trail head.

Morrison was transferred to Bend Fire and Rescue personnel at the trail head who transported to St. Charles Medical Center in Bend for further treatment.
