Bend, Ore. – Every Halloween Zooka! Super Toothcare For Kids serving Central Oregon, holds a candy buyback event. The collection of candy goes to our troops as part of their care packages.
The program is spearheaded by Dr. Rex Gibson who specializes in pediatric dentistry. His office offers $1 a pound to buy back candy collected by the young trick-or-treaters in his practice.
Troops deployed, receive the candy that was shipped over, and pass out what was collected in the buyback program. The care packages really help boost the troop’s morale when overseas. Specialist Jessie Blythe, with the Oregon National Guard, said, “Getting the care packages are a real morale booster when we’re deployed overseas.”
Think of it as cash for candy!
And this year, there may be even more candy out there to buy back. U.S. candy makers are expecting sales to be up 1.8 percent over last year, with Americans spending an estimated $2.5 billion on Halloween treats!
Take a listen to the program and participate!
