Grand Jury Returns Indictment In Jewelry Store Theft

Deschutes County, Ore. – Earlier this week a Deschutes County Grand Jury returned an Indictment charging 44-year old Deschutes County resident Manal Bijan with numerous counts of Theft in the First Degree and Aggravated Theft in the First Degree.

The State alleges that Ms. Bijan, over the course of several months and while an employee of Saxon’s Fine Jewelers in Bend, stole over $50,000 worth of jewelry from the store and sold it to local pawn shops.

“Employee theft and embezzlement are a significant problem in Deschutes County,” said Deschutes County District Attorney John Hummel. “Local law enforcement and your District Attorney will continue to do our best to make victims of these crimes whole and to hold offenders accountable.”

Bijan is lodged at the Deschutes County Jail with bail set at $75,000.

She is presumed innocent and has the opportunity to contest these allegations starting at her next court hearing on Nov. 16, 2016.
