Person Falls Through Ice On Deschutes River – Bend Fire Rescues

Bend, Ore. – The Bend Fire Department performed a rescue after someone fell into the Deschutes River in the Old Mill District on Saturday.

A party of three unidentified individuals ventured onto the ice over the top of the river around 3 p.m., with one of them falling through. The individual was able to pull themselves out of the water, and was resting on an unstable ice shelf when firefighters arrived, a Bend Fire Department news release said. A firefighter equipped with a dry suit was able to crawl out on the ice and bring the person to shore.

The Bend Fire Department reminds us that iced-over bodies of water are often not strong enough to hold a person or animal, and venturing out on the ice can be very dangerous.
