Crook County, Ore. – The Crook County Sheriff’s Office participated with law enforcement agencies across the state in a statewide safety belt and child car seat traffic enforcement “blitz’ that ran from February 2, 2017 through February 18, 2017.
In addition to looking for proper safety belt use and child car seat use, deputies were also on the alert for persons exceeding the speed limit, distracted driving or violating the “hands free” cellphone law.
This enhanced safety belt enforcement grant is provided through overtime funding from the USDOT’s National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
As a result of the safety belt blitz, deputies from the Crook County Sheriff’s Office logged 29 hours of overtime patrol, said Sergeant Travis Jurgens with the Crook County Sheriff’s Office.
During those 29 hours deputies made 35 traffic stops for Failure to Wear a Seatbelt, he said.
Additionally, deputies made 8 traffic stops for “Distracted Driving”, 9 traffic stops relating to speed, stopped 4 drivers that were driving on a suspended driver’s license and made 15 other traffic stops.
The 15 other traffic stops were for offenses such as Failure to Obey a Traffic Control Device, Expired Registration, Equipment/ Lighting Violations and Failure to Signal.
