Springfield ex-con dead from Deschutes County sheriff’s deputy bullet

A Springfield ex-con is the man who died from a Deschutes County sheriff’s deputy’s bullet.

Jesse Powell has a long criminal history.

He was 44-years-old.

Deputy Randy Zilk shot him Wednesday after getting a call that a man had been arguing with a woman and shots were fire at a campsite north of Century Drive.

Investigators aren’t saying what prompted the 13-year veteran of the sheriff’s office to shoot Powell.
