ABC/Heidi Gutman(NEW YORK) — In an emotional finale of The Bachelorette Monday, Becca Kufrin chose Garrett Yrigoyen to spend her forever with, but the rest of America doesn’t necessarily agree with her decision.
In the middle of the season, controversy around Garrett’s questionable social media habits surfaced. It appeared he “liked” Instagram posts that supported sexist, racist, and homophobic ideas. Garrett apologized for his behavior on the finale but some fans think that isn’t enough.
Becca told ABC Radio she understands the frustration but isn’t taking the backlash to heart.
“You have to take everything with a grain of salt,” she said, “because at the end of the day I’m the one in the relationship with him and I had to do what felt right for me in my heart and no one else has to date him.”
Becca went on to say she does wish everyone would support her relationship, but understands it’s impossible.
“The world is a crazy place, social media is a crazy place, so you’re gonna have the lovers and you’re gonna have the haters,” she said.
The drama isn’t stopping the couple from enjoying their engagement, though. Becca told ABC Radio she loves learning more about Garrett, including his quirks.
“He can fall asleep anywhere and I’m always like, ‘Wait, how do you fall asleep?’ And he’ll start snoring right away,” she said, laughing.
But, Becca isn’t the best person to sleep next to either, Garrett revealed.
“She talks in her sleep,” he said. “I just say, ‘Goodnight, I love you, and I’ll talk to you in the morning.'”
