Washington Sheriff Endorses Measure 91

SEATTLE, Wash. — A major Washington law enforcement official is voicing his support for the Oregon measure that would legalize recreational marijuana.

King County Sheriff John Urquhart says in a video ad released yesterday by the Yes on 91 campaign that he supported Washington state’s 2012 initiative, and that its strict regulations are working.

The sheriff adds that driving-under-the-influence is down and that money is going to schools and police instead of drug cartels.

The ad began airing on TV statewide last night.

In Oregon, the campaign to defeat Measure 91 has been primarily financed by the political arm of the Oregon State Sheriff’s Association.
