Portland. Ore. – Oregon State Police troopers are continuing the investigation into a fatal vehicle versus pedestrian crash on Highway 213 (82nd Avenue) and Causey Avenue involving a TriMet bus.

On November 26, 2014, at approximately 5:52 P.M., OSP troopers were dispatched to investigate a reported vehicle versus pedestrian fatal crash on 82nd Avenue at Causey Avenue. Preliminary investigation indicates that a 2012, Gillig city bus, owned by Tri-County Metro Transit District (TriMet), and driven by JASON A. WILHELM, 46, had just finished servicing a stop at 82nd and Causey Avenue. As the bus prepared to proceed southbound, identified as ELIAS P. FRENCH, 60, approached the bus while pushing a bicycle and began striking the side of it.

When the bus pulled away ELIAS fell to the ground and was run over by the rear wheels. The man was pronounced deceased at the scene. The bus crossed through the intersection and stopped in a safe location just south of Causey Avenue.

The roadway was blocked with a single lane detour for just over 2 hours before being reopened. The Clackamas Reconstruction And Forensics Team (CRAFT), Clackamas Fire Department, Oregon Department of Transportation, Metro Transit Police and TriMet assisted OSP at the scene.

Anyone with information or who witnessed this crash is asked to contact Trooper Bailey at 503-731-3020.
