Deschutes County Releases Name of Crash Victim

Bend, Ore. – The Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office says 54 year old , David Matthew McDermott of Bend died in a crash yesterday afternoon.

Here are details about the crash: At about 1:00 pm Deschutes County Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to a motor vehicle crash near the entrance of the Knott Landfill.

The initial investigation revealed a black 2000 GMC Sierra pickup was traveling south on SW 27th St. when it crossed into the northbound lane, for an unknown reason and collided head-on into a 2011 Freightliner tractor trailer. The Freightliner was driven by 44 year old David Stearns of Bend.

Stearns, an employee of Sysco Corporation, was not injured during this crash. The driver of the pickup (McDermott) was pronounced dead at the scene.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation. More information, including the name of the driver, will be released pending the notification of the next of kin.

SW 27th St. was closed for approximately 4 hours as a result of this crash.
