Huffman Running For Senate
BEND, OR -- On Thursday, Jim Huffman announced he was running for the Senate seat currently held by Ron Wyden.
"Senator Wyden has been there for 20 years, and in my judgment, he has not served Oregon as well as he could have, so I'm hoping to replace him."
Huffman, a guest Tuesday morning on Wake Up Bend!, said he's running on a conservative platform that will encourage job growth and improve Oregon's economy. The 64-year-old former Lewis & Clark School of Law Dean said one point of great difference between he and Wyden is Health Care reform. Wyden has supported President Obama's Health Care reform legislation, while Huffman says it's time to start over.
"I think we ought to have a much more focused approach to fixing the very real problems that exist, rather than this system-wide effort to take over a sixth of the American economy. I think there are some real problems, but I think this effort is going to further expand the deficit. It's not going to accomplish anything it's aimed to accomplish."
Huffman said he's a good fit for the changing attitude, since he's not a career politician, and because of his experience at Lewis & Clark.
"That's really like running a small business. A $20 million a year operation, and we had to make revenue and expenses match up, unlike the way the federal government runs."
