Oregon man gets life for 2 murders
A Klamath Falls man has been sentenced to life in prison for two murders in 2007 and for nearly killing another person.
Matthew Avina-Norris pleaded guilty to two counts of aggravated murder and one count of attempted murder before he was sentenced Wednesday.
Prosecutors said the 25-year-old Avina-Norris killed Marissa Orlow and David Kitts in their apartment over a money dispute. A third victim, Melissa Ann Kitts, was wounded during the attack.
Avina-Norris fled after the murders and was arrested in Northern California. He was sent to the Oregon State Hospital in Salem in May for evaluation before the case could proceed.
