Additional US Military Advisers Arrive to Create Baghdad Joint Operations Center

Baghdad. State Dept photo(BAGHDAD) — Another batch of American advisers arrived in Iraq on Tuesday, joining 40 personnel already on the ground to assist in efforts combating threats posed by militant group ISIS.

The additional 90 advisors will help establish the Baghdad Joint Operations Center, with workers from various military services and special operation forces, as well as personnel from intelligence, logistics, and IT.

Currently, 130 of the 300 U.S. workers expected to be sent are now in the country’s capital. Pentagon Press Secretary Rear Admiral John Kirby explained the forces will work with higher Iraqi military headquarters at the brigade level, with no personnel conducting foot patrols.

The teams’ first steps will be to conduct assessments of the ongoing situation with the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria, which is gaining hold over more territory each day.
