BEND, OR — Bend Police arrested a Dufur man after an alleged Sunday evening assault. Around 9:30 p.m., officers were called to NW Idaho Ave. and Broadway St. where a man said he had been robbed a knifepoint by a stranger. Investigators learned the victim was receiving a ride home from William Joseph Baker, 28, when Baker pulled his car over and demanded the victim's wallet. At first, the victim refused, but Baker placed a knife to his throat and demanded the wallet again. Eventually, Baker got the wallet, and the victim got away and called police.
Baker was arrested without incident Monday evening at his home in Dufur. He was taken to the Deschutes County jail, charged with 1st Degree Robbery, 4th Degree Assault, and 3rd Degree Theft.
Bend PD would like to thank the Oregon State Police for assisting in locating and arresting Baker. Additionally, we would like to thank NORCOR Adult Facility for temporarily detaining Baker until BPD investigators could pick him up.
