(NEW YORK) — Between taking showers with no privacy to steamy sex scenes, Orange Is the New Black’s Taylor Schilling has plenty of scenes in her hit Netflix series to make her uncomfortable. Still, there was one scene in particular that she just couldn’t stomach filming.
That scene was when Schilling’s character, Piper Kerman, was confronted by Taryn Manning’s Pennsatucky after refusing to be baptized. While Piper is showering, Pennsatucky storms in, cuts herself, smears blood all over Piper’s body, then threatens to shank her.
Schilling calls the moment “one of the scariest scenes I’ve ever shot,” in the July issue of Allure.
Still, fans love those moments. It’s the reason why the series has been a success for Netflix. Schilling told the magazine she believes the varied cast, featuring all races, sizes and ages, is what helps the show connect with so many people.
“When we walk down the street, we see a huge variety of women, and that’s just not usually reflected in entertainment — and yet this show does that,” she said.
The Allure issue featuring Schilling’s interview arrives on newsstands June 30.
