(NEW YORK) — Scandal watchers won’t see one character when the ABC series returns this fall — Columbus Short’s Harrison Wright. Tony Goldwyn, who plays President Fitzgerald Grant, says the cast is feeling the loss too.
“He’s great,” Goldwyn told US Weekly of his former co-star. “But on Scandal, like what happened to Dan Bucatinsky last year, you never know when we’re gonna survive!”
Bucatinsky, who won an Emmy for his portrayal of White House reporter James Novak, was unexpectedly killed off the series last season.
“We’re all just so thrilled to be a part of it,” Goldwyn continued. “Every day we just trust in [creator] Shonda [Rhimes], she’s great. There’s always a good surprise.”
Short announced his departure from the hit drama series earlier this year after his wife reportedly obtained a restraining order and filed for divorce after he allegedly threatened to kill the both of them.
In March, Short pleaded not guilty to spousal battery in a separate incident, after he allegedly attacked his wife in front of his daughter and his son. Around the same time he entered that plea, he was arrested for allegedly punching another man at a West Los Angeles restaurant.
