Casey Kasem Has Not Been Buried, His Daughter Kerri Confirms

ABC News(NEW YORK) — Casey Kasem died on June 15, amid a very public rift between his second wife, Jean, and his three children from his first marriage.

His daughter Kerri Kasem said on The View Thursday that she’s not sure what started the dispute.

“If I knew I would tell you. I would try and make amends,” Kasem said. “I would say, ‘I’m sorry Jean. What happened? …Why do you hate us so much?”

Last month, a judge granted Kerri conservatorship over the radio personality, who had been hospitalized for some time and was suffering from dementia. Jean Kasem disagreed with the ruling, publicly stating that the courts and Kasem’s children “all have blood on their hands.” Prior to their court battle, Kerri said that she hadn’t seen her stepmother in more than a decade. She also claimed that Jean refused to let her husband’s family or friends visit their home.

“As soon as he became ill enough where he couldn’t pick up the phone or walk to get into the car…she cut him off. The driver wasn’t allowed to drive him anywhere,” Kerri said. “I talked to her twice on the phone but I haven’t seen her in fifteen years. I don’t know her.”

While Casey Kasem may be gone, the feud is far from over. Kerri, who said she and her siblings “have never asked for money,” claimed that “they’re coming after our trust — the only thing our dad left us.” (Jean told TMZ that the children wanted to “collect on his sizable life insurance policy.”) Kerri added that Jean did not attend his memorial last weekend and said that her father has yet to be buried.

“I know that he’s still in Washington,” she said, adding that he wanted to be buried in Glendale, California. “I don’t know what’s going on with [Jean] and why she makes the decisions she does.”

An attorney for Jean Kasem could not be reached for comment.
