MEDFORD, OR — A Jackson County grand jury deliberated for less than ten minutes Thursday before announcing that two sheriff's deputies were legally justified when they shot and killed an Ashland being evicted from his house. The District Attorney’s office said Earl Harris, 73, was advancing toward a Jackson County deputy with a loaded gun June 10th, when he was shot twice in the chest and once in the hand. Investigators also found improvised explosive devices in the home.
Reports said seven deputies went to the eviction because Harris displayed a firearm when his golf cart and recreational vehicle were repossessed in 2011, and they thought he might be confrontational.
