Harper Homers Three Times in Rehab

G Fiume/Getty Images(AKRON, Ohio) — During a rehab stint with Double-A Harrisburg, Bryce Harper belted three home runs in a 10-4 win for the Senators on Saturday. The Washington Nationals outfielder was preparing to return to the Major League’s following thumb surgery.

Harper was 4-for-5 in his third rehab game, driving in five runs. Hitting in the third spot of the order, Harper was the designated hitter for the Senators. The 2012 National League Rookie of the Year injured his thumb on a headfirst slide in late April before being placed on the disabled list on April 27. He was hitting .289 with one homer and nine RBI’s at the time of the injury.

The Nationals are hoping to get Harper back to the bigs this week. Manager Matt Williams said he is unsure if Harper will play for Harrisburg in Sunday’s game with Akron. Washington is currently tied with Atlanta for first place in the NL East.
