The U.S. government’s road safety agency is investigating complaints that a trim panel can trap a driver’s foot, causing unwanted acceleration in Nissan Versa small cars.
The probe covers about 360,000 Nissan Versa and Versa Note subcompacts from the 2012 through 2014 model years.  The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration says it has four complaints alleging that a trim panel near the gas pedal can trap the edge of a driver’s shoe. This can stop the driver from releasing the gas pedal quickly.  There are no reports of crashes or injuries.
A jury in Philadelphia has returned a $55 million verdict against Honda Motor Co. for a rollover accident that left a driver paralyzed.  Lawyers for Carlos Martinez argued a faulty seat belt design in his Acura Integra caused the injuries he suffered in 2010.  Honda says it will appeal the verdict issued Thursday.  A company spokesman denies any defect in the restraint system.
