Credit: The White House(WASHINGTON) — The Obama administration announced on Monday that it plans to send 300 additional U.S. troops to Baghdad.

The White House announced that it would send 200 additional personnel to “reinforce security at the U.S. Embassy, its support facilities, and the Baghdad International Airport.” An additional 100 troops who had been “prepositioned” in Kuwait will also be sent into Iraq in the coming days, said Pentagon Press Secretary Rear Admiral John Kirby.

Kirby said the latest troops deployed to Iraq will “bolster airfield and travel route security” using helicopters and unmanned aerial vehicles.

In total, there are now approximately 750 U.S. personnel in Iraq.
