(LONDON) — Emma Watson reportedly is at the center of an investigation by U.K. immigration officials over claims that an American housekeeper illegally worked for her at her London home.
The U.K. newspaper The Independent reports the housekeeper is alleged to have worked for the Harry Potter star in England for a few months between September of 2013 and February of this year. At the time, the housekeeper reportedly may have had a tourist visa, which does not permit visitors to work in the U.K.
The investigation was launched after Border Agency officials received a complaint alleging the housekeeper was being paid to work at Watson’s London home.
The housekeeper reportedly began working for the 24-year-old British actress in early 2013 at her New York apartment.
If Watson is found to have employed the housekeeper at her London home without the proper papers in place, she could face up to $17,000 in fines.
