BEND, OR — This week’s rising temperatures, coupled with a weather pattern moving north out of California, lead one weather official to pronounce Central Oregon to be at risk of lightning fires.
Dennis Hull is with the National Weather Service. He says that although rain levels are normal for this time of year, Central Oregon is definitely experiencing hotter weather.
"The outlook for the month of July is for temperatures to be normal on average," Hull says, "and then for precipitation to be close to normal."
Because of that warmer weather, Hull says the general area is at greater risk for a large thunderstorm Wednesday.
“We are looking at a little bit of high-level atmospheric moisture moving north from California, so that might touch off some thunderstorms," Hull says. "We do have a Fire Weather Watch because of that.”
That weather pattern is predicted to clear out by Monday.
