Cardinals Pitcher Jaime Garcia Out the Rest of the Season

Bob Levey/Getty Images(NEW YORK) — Despite his best efforts to stay on the field this season, Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Dispatch is reporting that St. Louis Cardinals starting pitcher Jaime Garica will undergo thoracic outlet surgery and will miss the remainder of the season.

Garica has been one of the Cardinals more reliable pitchers during his career, but has battled injuries the past two seasons that have limited him to just 16 starts.

He made just nine seasons last season because he underwent surgery to repair a torn labrum. He finally returned this May and made seven starts this season where he went 3-1 with a 4.12 ERA

For his career, the 27-year-old Garcia has a career 3.50 era to go along with a record of 42-26.

This injury could put Garica’s future with the Cardinals in jeopardy if he can’t come back fully healthy next season. He’s owed $9.25 million next season, but he has club options for 2016 and 2017.
