BEND, OR — The Deschutes Public Library is encouraging children, teens and adults to enjoy a good book or two this summer. The Summer Reading Program, which started in mid-June, has three programs for specific ages, geared to start and cultivate a love of reading. Program organizer Heather McNeil told KBNW News they started the Summer Reading Program years ago to help children who are pulled in so many directions during the summer months.
“Children are so structured. ‘Oh, we’re going to soccer and then we’re going to swim and then we’re going over to our friend’s house and then we have to go shopping and then we have to do this and that’, and somewhere in that we want them to pause and come to the library and relax and enjoy a book and read to their child, if they are a young child, pick up some fun things to take home and enjoy them.”
McNeil, a guest Sunday on Inside Central Oregon, added the Summer Reading Program has changed the lives of many children and parents over the years. Click Here to learn more about the program.
