Project To Slow Government Camp Traffic This Summer, Fall

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERABEND, OR — The state Department of Transportation will launch a three-year project intended to improve traffic flow and safety on Highway 26 near Government Camp.  Starting this week, crews will reduce the Highway to one-lane near Mirror Lake.  This will allow for blasting, rock removal, widening the roadway and more.  ODOT’s Kimberly Dinwiddie told KBNW News motorists can expect 20-minute delays during construction, with occasional one-hour stoppages for blasting operations.

“We are trying our best to keep the roadway open.  In the end, everyone wants to go home and see their family at night, and people traveling want to get to their destination.  So, just pack your patience with ya when you head through that area.”

The nearly eight mile project along Highway 26 will take this summer and fall, as well as the construction seasons of 2015 and 2016 to complete.  Construction will shutdown from November to March.  To learn more about the project, visit ODOT’s Website.

During the construction season, motorists may want to consider Highway 20 over Santiam Pass, Highway 197 or Highway 97 as alternative routes into the Portland area.
