SALEM, OR — The amount paid to people filing for unemployment insurance benefits has increase slightly. The maximum an individual can receive each week has increased to $549, a 2% increase, while the minimum increased to $128, a 1.6% increase. Craig Spivey with the state Employment Department told KBNW News the increase will only impact those that file for claims on or after June 29th.
“Anyone who is on unemployment prior to that, they would continue to receive the same amount they always received. And we usually have around 5,000 people statewide who file a new claim each week.”
By state law, the unemployment insurance benefits are set as percentages of the average weekly wage earned by Oregonians.
