BEND, OR — While drivers are paying the highest fuel prices since 2008, AAA-Oregon said Tuesday there could be good news on the horizon. Crude oil and wholesale gas prices are ticking down, which means prices at the pump may have peaked for 2014. The national average for a gallon of gas fell two cents in the past week to $3.65, while Oregon’s average held at $3.98 a gallon.
Oregon has the fifth highest gas prices in the nation. The states with higher prices, including California and Washington, have averages above $4 a gallon.
“Violence in Iraq continues to keep crude oil prices elevated, but the fear of a disruption to supply is easing somewhat because production in the south of that country has not been affected,” said AAA-Oregon’s Marie Dodds.
Here are some of the lowest prices we could find across Central Oregon:
- $3.89 a gallon in Bend
- $3.85 a gallon in Redmond
- $3.98 a gallon in Madras
- $3.85 a gallon in Prineville
- $3.93 a gallon in Sisters
- $4.05 a gallon in La Pine
