Coffee is celebrating ten years in Central Oregon.  And to mark the occasion, all eight location will hold a $1 Day” on Wednesday, to benefit the Bend, Redmond and Sisters Habitat for Humanity.  Through the purchase of any drink for $1, Dutch Bros. store and the community together will help raise funds to benefit Central Oregonians in need.

Dutch Bros. opened their first location, the original 3rd St. location, June 28th, 2004.

The Central Oregon Association of Realtors has named Michael Aid of Bend the 2014 Realtor of the year.  The announcement was made in late June during the group’s award banquet at Bend Golf and Country Club.

Oregon officials have reached a $2.3 million settlement with a generic drug manufacturer from India over allegations that it sold improperly manufactured prescription drugs in Oregon.  The Oregon Department of Justice says it filed the settlement Tuesday with Ranbaxy Laboratories and two affiliated U.S. companies. Officials say no Oregonians are known to have been harmed by the drugs, and all the products are now off the market.

Local contractors will be able to obtain their CCB license education with a live class in Bend Friday and Saturday.  The “test preparation” course will take place at the COCC campus from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. both days.  Registration fee is $305 and includes the current Oregon Contractor’s Reference Manual.  Call (541) 383-7290 to register or to learn more.

By its own estimate, the government made about $100 billion in payments last year to people who may not have been entitled to receive them – tax credits to families that didn’t qualify, unemployment benefits to people who had jobs and medical payments for treatments that might not have been necessary.  Congressional investigators say the figure could be even higher.  The Obama administration has reduced the amount of improper payments since they peaked in 2010. Still, estimates from federal agencies show that some are wasting big money at a time when Congress is squeezing agency budgets and looking to save more.

The United States and China vowed Wednesday to improve their economic and security cooperation, saying they wouldn’t let persistent differences over maritime claims, cyberhacking and currency hamper a relationship critical to global peace and prosperity.  Opening this year’s “Strategic and Economic Dialogue,” Chinese President Xi Jinping stressed the need to avoid confrontation between nations accounting for a quarter of the world’s people and a third of the global economy.
