Two Children, Adult Rescued Off Oregon Coast

GARIBALDI, OR — When a 14-foot boat capsized in front of the Coast Guard’s Tillamook Bay station at Garibaldi on the north Oregon coast, guardsmen swung into action, rescuing two children and one adult.

Petty Officer 2nd Class Patrick Sandler was working on the pier Wednesday afternoon when he heard screams for help and saw a girl swimming toward him.  He helped her onto the pier and called for reinforcements. The agency sent out a boat and crew to help the other two people, a man and a boy who were holding on to the breakwall approximately 200 yards from the station pier.

The Coast Guard said all three were taken to a nearby hospital. They were reported in good condition.
