Business BriefsBEND, OR — The Bank of the Cascades recently presented the United Way of Deschutes County with a $42,000 check.  The funds will be used to address the most urgent social services needs facing Central Oregon.  For 2014, Bank of the Cascades has donated $84,000 to Central Oregon non-profits.

“United Way of Deschutes County is making a positive difference in addressing some of our community’s most pressing needs,” said Bank of the Cascades President and CEO Terry Zink. “It is a privilege to partner in its important work by matching 100 percent of the contributions our Central Oregon employees have pledged to make to United Way in 2014.”

From 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. Friday, BedMart Mattress Superstores will donate 15 Tempur-Pedic mattresses to Icon City.  This will mark BedMart’s 2nd annual Tempur-Pedic mattress donation in Central Oregon.  Icon City, a Central Oregon nonprofit organization located on SE Reed Market Rd., assists homeless teens and adults through weekly food and supplies distribution, a mobile shower truck and the innovative BeRemedy text line.

Carriage Place, a senior living community in Prineville, will hold an open house Saturday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.  The event is free and there will be live music.  Carriage Place is located at 150 S. Williamson St. in Prinevile.

According to the Portland Business Journal OnPoint will place their ATMs in 72 Rite Aid pharmacies across the state.  OnPoint, Oregon’s largest Credit Union, has 23 locations and 269,000 members statewide.

Nike will end its sponsorship deal with Manchester United after the 2014-15 season.  The Beaverton-based sports apparel and shoe maker confirmed the end of the 13-year equipment supply contract in an email.  The club’s deal with Nike was worth a minimum 303 million pounds, nearly $519 million at today’s exchange rate.

Whirlpool will pay more than $1 billion for a controlling stake in Indesit, the appliance maker’s counterpart in Italy.  The deal announced Friday will put the U.S. company in possession of shares representing 66.8 %of Indesit’s voting stock. Whirlpool also owns Maytag, KitchenAid and other brands.

Prescribed Burns Planned This Week

On Tuesday, Sisters Ranger District firefighters plan to conduct up to 31 acres of prescribed burning on Sisters Area Fuels Reduction (SAFR) Unit 38 approximately three miles south of Sisters adjacent to Three Creek Lake Road (Forest
