John Kerry: All Votes in Afghan Presidential Election To Be Audited

US State Department(KABUL, Afghanistan) — Afghanistan is set to conduct an audit of the total votes cast in the recent presidential election, Secretary of State John Kerry announced Saturday.

The ballot boxes will be evaluated immediately once they are brought from area provinces into Kabul, and the audit is expected to take several weeks.

Originally, United Nations observers suggested specific polling locations for the evaluation, but now, all 8 million votes are set to be scrutinized.

As a result, Kerry also requested that President Hamid Karzai delay the inauguration scheduled for Aug. 2. The two candidates, Ashraf Ghani and Abdullah Abdullah, spoke in support of the decision.
