BEND, OR — Bend firefighters were called to a large yard debris pile on fire at the southern end of Cinder Butte Rd. in Deschutes River Woods Monday morning. When crews arrived shortly after 6 a.m., they found workers trying to contain the fire. Bend Fire said the pile on fire contained about 2,000 cubic yards of yard debris.
The cause of Monday’s fire remains under investigation.
Firefighters will return to the area through the week to ensure the blaze is completely out. Smoke will be visible in the Deschutes River Woods, Highway 97 and south Bend area for much of Monday.
Bend Fire Department reminds everyone that we are in extreme fire danger right now and any even the smallest fire can grow out of control very fast. If you see a fire, call 911 as soon as possible. The workers at this site called 911 as soon as they noticed the fire. This allowed fire crews plenty of time to arrive and ensure the fire was not going to spread from the pile to the nearby open forest land.
