Last Year’s Unclaimed OR Tax Refunds Total $1.8m

US Treasury ChecksThousands of Oregon taxpayers have refunds waiting, but they have yet to cash the check.

Oregon Department of Revenue’s Joy Krawczyk says that between one and two thousand notification letters have been mailed to taxpayers this year.

“The two key reasons we’ve identified are either: somebody gets their check and mean to cash it and put it aside, and it ends up in a drawer somewhere or in a box. The other issue is people who submit all their paperwork and then move, and they don’t update their address with the Department of Revenue.”

Krawczyk says over $1.8 million in refund checks went unclaimed last year.

“If they have the check on hand they should deposit it as soon as possible. If they never received the check, they can sign the notice and return it to Revenue and the check will be reissued.”
