(LOS ANGELES) — Actor James Garner died of a massive heart attack, according to the death certificate obtained by TMZ.
The former star of TV’s Maverick and The Rockford Files died July 19 in his Los Angeles home at the age of 86. The certificate lists the cause of death as acute myocardial infarction.
Garner’s credits also include the classic 1963 war drama The Great Escape, an Oscar-nominated role in 1985’s Murphy’s Romance and a 1994 film version of Maverick, with Mel Gibson playing the title role and Garner starring as his father. Garner also appeared in 2000’s Space Cowboys opposite Clint Eastwood, and 2004’s The Notebook, and had a role on the TV sitcom 8 Simple Rules.
