Maholm Sent to DL with Torn ACL

Tom Szczerbowski/Getty Images(LOS ANGELES) — Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Paul Maholm had an MRI on his right knee Saturday which revealed a torn ACL.

The left-handed Maholm injured the knee during Friday night’s loss to the Cubs when he tried covering first base in the seventh inning. Maholm immediately fell to the field and held his knee after the play but eventually got up and walked off the field with no help.

The 32-year-old Maholm signed a $1.5 million contract this off-season with the Dodgers.

Maholm, who has been a starter for his entire career, has mainly pitched out of the bullpen this season, compiling a 1-5 record with a 4.84 ERA and a 1.56 WHIP.

The Dodgers announced Maholm will see Dr. Neal ElAttrache to determine if he needs surgery.

Pitcher Paco Rodriguez was recalled from Triple-A Albuquerque to take Maholm’s roster spot.
