UMATILLA, OR — The addition of a third strip club in downtown Umatilla has residents and officials wondering how to prevent more. City planner Bill Searles told the Eastern Oregonian Umatilla’s zoning ordinances are different from those in most cities and don’t specify what types of businesses can go downtown. The city is trying to implement a 120-day moratorium, the maximum allowed, that would prevent new adult businesses from opening while the city researches long-term options. The moratorium would be enacted through an ordinance approved by the City Council. It would narrowly define what businesses would be prevented from opening, and it wouldn’t include restaurants with bars.
The council couldn’t vote on the ordinance until its second meeting in September.
