City Reveals New NW Pump Station

BEND, OR — The City of Bend revealed plans to install an additional sewer station at McKay Park Tuesday evening.

“In McKay Park right now we have the Shevlin lift station, which is an older station,” says project manager Aaron Collett. “It’s past its capacity and isn’t working real well- I mean, it’s functioning, but it’s definitely past its capacity.”

Collett adds that the new Colorado pump station will run concurrently with the Shevlin station, relieving much of the burden on the aging station.

The purpose of the Monday’s open house was to educate and inform the public, especially those who live along the planned route.

“About a mile of pipe in Arizona and on the bridge will be this coming spring time through the construction season of 2015,” Collett says. “We will probably be closing just one lane of Arizona at a time.”

At the same time, Bend Parks and Rec will be making significant changes to the Colorado Avenue spillway and pedestrian bridge.
