BEND, OR — Several schools within the Bend-La Pine District are being renovated over summer break.
At Mountain View High, the culinary rooms were renovated, and the gym, tennis court, and track were all resurfaced. Buckingham Elementary was made safer.
“We improved security for student access,” says project manager Hal Beumel. “Before you could walk in and just kind of walk down the hallway into the school. Now you have to walk in and check in. So it’s more of a modern, more secure design.”
Beumel adds that working on such a tight deadline has presented challenges when the unexpected obstacles get in the way.
Despite those challenges, Beumel says most of the school projects will be completed and ready for students to return.
The school repairs are a result of a successful 2013 bond measure.
